The Salt Valley of Salinas de Añana in Basque country, Spain are one of the oldest salt factories in the world with more than 6,500 years of history that delivers a completely pure salt from an ancient sea of more than 200 million years. An extensive and quite unique network of wooden platforms originally built over 5,000 years ago distribute the brine and saltwater which is poured to obtain salt through solar evaporation. It is the only place in the world where salt is still extracted in this ancient way.
