Cardamom, originally from India was introduced to Guatemala just before World War 1 however by the year 2000 it had become the worlds biggest producer and exporter of cardamom. It is predominantly used in cooking especially Indian cuisine. Although considered one of the most expensive spices, only a small amount is ever needed when using Cardamom in cooking or baking.
Fun fact: In the Middle East Cardamom is actually mixed with coffee and used in creating sweet dishes.
